#中四英文作文
I am writing to express my concern about the news that the government wants to tear down the Hong Kong Playhouse to build a car park. There has been a diverse spectrum of opinions of whether preserving the threatre or to build a car park which seems to be more practical for people. Divergent as people's opinions towards this issue might be. I believe that the threatre should be preserved.
It has long been acknowledged that threatre is a place where live performers, actors or actresses perform their art and present the experience of a real or imagined event or even a show on the stage. In fact, threatre acts as a tool for preserving heritage and shaping history. Arguably, every society is flawed, and threatre helps to expose these flaws by providing a space for people to think about solutions to issues without consequences. Basically, by preserving the threatre, people manage to learn more culture about the past and the evolution to the society. What's more, it also helps to develop a sense of identity and belonging to the community, but people often do not notice their surrounding and things carefully as they only thought of the benefits. The Hong Kong Playhouse has been one of the historical threatres and significant buildings to Hong Kong as it has existed till today since the British ruling Hong Kong. Therefore, it has its own value and symbolic influence to Hong Kong.
In the same vein, with its influence and artistic value, it also acts as an important character to attract foreign visitors and tourists to pay visit to the threatre and help promote local business with economics interest. The majority of people in Hong Kong bury their heads in the sand when it comes to art and culture, however they can use this advantage instead. As one of the finnicial centers in the world, the government can definitely arrange a certain amount of budget to rennovate the threatre instead of building a car park. By preserving the art and culture, tourists from other countries may enjoy the unique music, dance and play performance which include wondrous fantasy as well. Although this solution cannot guarantee the rate of prefectly successful, with more tourists visiting Hong Kong for the threatre, the local business can definitely be promoted. So, the Hong Kong Playhouse is worth being preserved.
Moreover, the Hong Kong Playhouse occupies a greater advantage and value compared to building a car park. Car park is just a parking lot which is a cleared area intended for parking vehicles. There are car parks everywhere in Hong Kong, but the Hong Kong Playhouse is the one and only building and also one of the symbollic threatres in Hong Kong. Maybe most people agree that car parks are more practical compared to threatres. In the long run, the Hong Kong Playhouse has more chance to make the economics interest increase. So I believe that car parks are less important and significant then threatres.
Some critics put forward the idea that the threatre has become obsoleted and old. However, I believe it is not the case. As mentioned before, the government can make the decision to rennovate the threatre to preserve the art and culture. Besides, as "Art exists for the human species, I think that all people whe love art, those who teach art, and all of you should burn with the obligation to save the world". Solving the above problems may appear to be a hollow talk, but I believe the government should think carefully before making the decision.
In a nutshell, I hope the government can pay more attention to the past and culture of the threatre and I hope this letter might shed some light on preservation of heritage.
